SHAMS CHAAT HOUSE

Alright, we've made it to the Garden area of Karachi Shams chaat's located in this commercial area Just check the vibe here! And as time will pass, the number of people too will increase Orders are flying in, chaat keeps going out! This lemon drizzle in the end is just too damn good! It looks so tempting, imagine how much delicious would it be? We've got shiraz here who owns the shop Let's ask him as to what's the secret behind his success? The chaat has so many chutneys in it! So how exactly did you invent this chaat?

This recipe's been in use since my father's time Right We've added green, red, sweet and sour chutneys And lemons, all go in to create this chaat My father ran this business, then my brother, now it's my turn Right So it's been about 50 years Masha'Allah The flavor's been the same ever since Yeah and your chaat's famous all over Karachi Indeed Quite a lot of chutneys over here! Which chutney's this? The sour one, then the green one Alright Then the red Nice Then come the red-spiced potatoes Then onions and tomatoes Then the lemon drizzle! Now comes the yoghurt You aren't supposed to mix it! Gotta eat it as it is They've written it on the walls to not mix the chaat! The reason why you shouldn't do that is to keep the original flavor If you mix it, some of it will get sweet, some spicy, some sour They all would become different So don't mix it at all? Nope! Whichever chaat that is?

Yes, whatever chaat you buy from us shouldn't be mixed He's making meethi puri here These are potatoes and chickpeas mixed These aren't just chickpeas, but potatoes in it too Then we'll add in salt Salt goes in separately? Yes Then chaat masala and sour chutney Then we have the papri Then the sweet chutney Sweet chutney? Yes, made from dates Made from what? Dates Oh This isn't paani puri, but meethi puri Then comes the yoghurt Quite the heavy-duty chaat this is Is this available in ramadan? Yes Is it parcelled? Yes Now the red masala Nice, this looks like a piece of art! Now the chaat masala Now we'll add onions Too damn good! Now the lemon This is the real deal Papri after that

This ain't even close to ending! And this is the meethi puri! This yoghurt and meethi puri looks amazing Awesome! We have our meethi puri here And it looks like a piece of art to me Taking a spoonful of it, gotta eat it whole! Bismillah-ir-rahman-ar-raheem Really awesome sweet and sour taste! And the gol gappa is fully-stuffed! Tastes fantastic, let's have another! This is really gonna make iftar worth the wait! Come here All of your stress will simply disappear with just one gol gappa And the brother behind me too is like a gol gappa! Chana Chaat is 100/, mixed plate 120/, samosa chaat 120/ Dahi puri? 110/ Meethi puri? 110/ 8 for 110/ Our plate's in the making Chutney goes in, yoghurt too

This is a really special chaat Check the papri and the potatoes One plate's enough for one iftaar  Nice, thanks We do give parcels in ramadan People come here from all over, some come daily Yeah they wanna eat it daily Awesome So our awesome special mixed chaat is here I was about to mix it, but you shouldn't mix it Let's start, bismillah-ir-rahman-ar-raheem Really good, and just like Shiraz said that every bite has it's own flavor Sweetness comes from somewhere, sourness from another part Really good There's just too many chutneys in this If you want someone to have chaat, bring them here, too good!

Headed for Gurumandir now  It's a really old area We're at our destination This Gurumandir Roundabout is a fairly old area And you can see this horse cart behind me Many decades ago, the road from here till Tower was called Bandar Road And you might've heard the song "bandar road se kemari" And that horse cart culture is still here And on this cart we'll travel till Soldier Bazar So what's the scene with horse carts?

These are mostly for marriage ceremonies Right And for how long have you been riding these? Well about 50 years Ok The rate's 10,000/ for 2 horses So to the marriage hall and back? No just the entry with the bridegroom And what if we want to go to the tomb of Jinnah?  Your good name? Faraz Faraz is usually here at Gurumandir and will take us to Jinnah's tomb and Soldier Bazar You can come here and contact him This is basically a stop, there's three horse carts behind us I won't sit in the back, but at the front, and drive the cart! Can I take one too.
